Health care marketing has gotten a bad wrap... and rightfully so. You see it all the time: a photo of a nurse or doctor and a headline that reads “More outcomes than any other hospital in town”. Nearly every billboard, print ad, radio spot sounding exactly like that other hospital claiming to be unique.

You can’t simply say you’re unique, you have to show it. You have a unique culture that more than likely defines who you really are. One that delivers your promise to those you serve. This is the stuff that sets you apart.

How can you make your hospital web site stand out from the pack? Resist the urge to cram everything you have to say on the home page. Less is more when it comes to your hospital home page. Think of everyone’s favorite consumer electronics brand - Apple. Its home page is beautiful in its simplicity. There’s one large, gorgeous “hero” product image that makes us believe that we want/need/gotta have whatever they’re selling. Then they offer three or four action-item options at the bottom of the page. Simple and smart.

The World Wide Web, and everything involved with it, has continuously evolved since its creation. And it continues to do so at an increasing pace. The current change is how we are moving from accessing the Web from our home or work desktop computers or laptops, to accessing the Web from anywhere, at anytime, on our smartphones. Now, accessing the Web via a mobile device can really be done by both smartphones and Web-enabled feature phones, but for the purpose of this article, I am going to discuss the idea of accessing the mobile Web via smartphones (iPhones, Android powered phones, certain Blackberry devices and the new Windows powered phones).
